RoomsTonite: Your Last Minute Hotel Room Booking App to Grow Occupancy

As an hotelier, do you face the nagging problem of unoccupied rooms? Have you exhausted your marketing budget? Does your sales team blame your hotel occupancy level on the increased room supply?

A survey by Crisil Research in 2012[1] would back that up. The survey said that increased room supply in India despite a down turn in the economy resulted in 12 percent decline in revenue per room. The report also states that around 14,500 news rooms will be added in 2013-14 to the existing 46,200 rooms which would lead to a fall in occupancy rate from 64 percent in 2011-12 to 56 percent in 2013-24. This would also shrink the operating margins of premium segment hotels in 2013-14 to 16 percent, the lowest mark in last 10 years.

The problem of unsold rooms is obviously significant as rooms are a perishable commodity. If you are a hotelier looking for ways to grow room occupancy despite popular predictions, perhaps the smart mobile industry holds the answer.

·         According to a survey conducted by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), India will have 165 million mobile internet users by the end March, 2015[2].

·         The survey also revealed that India had 87.1 million mobile internet users by the end of 2012 up from 78.7 million users in October 2012.

·         Of the 78 million users, 61 million were off-deck users (accessing all websites).

·         63 percent of users use their mobile internet to search for flight timings, hotels and car rentals. (hotelmarketing.com, September 2012)
